Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS)

Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) is a Dutch rail company that operates trains on the main rail network, which accounts for 80% of passenger kilometres in the Netherlands. Since it was founded in 1837 as NV Hollandsche IJzeren Spoorweg-Maatschappij (HIJSM), NS has contributed to the mobility and progress of the Netherlands. NS is a full-service provider, and not just for trains: think of the bicycle parking facilities and the OV-fiets bicycle hire system, as well as the development of the areas around the network of 394 mainline and secondary stations. Together with our public transport partners, we are constantly working to improve our services and performance.

NS International is the business unit of NS which provides international rail services in collaboration with its partners Thalys, Eurostar, Deutsche Bahn, ÖBB, SBB and SNCB. Together, we connect the Netherlands to the major cities and regions of Belgium, Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria and the United Kingdom. This includes high-speed trains to Paris, London and Frankfurt, among others, as well as night trains to Vienna, Innsbruck and Zurich. We want rail to be the logical first choice for distances of up to around 700 kilometres. Together with our Railteam partners, we are working to realise this ambition by quickly connecting Dutch travellers to the high-speed rail networks of the countries around us, increasing train frequency and speed, adding new destinations and making international rail travel easier. Finally, we are working with the aviation industry, governments and ProRail to replace very short flights, such as those between Amsterdam and Brussels, with fast rail links.
